Fledglings
June 5, 2009

Last evening we loaded our bikes into the truck to go to the Trail for a ride. My wife got into the passenger side and I got into the driver’s seat. I was just ready to start the engine when she said, “Wait, we have a visitor.”
I looked up to see a tiny bird perched on the passenger side windshield wiper. I took a few photographs and then one of the parents showed up on the radio antenna. They were Phoebes. We have a lot of them around this year. This duo was probably from the nesting platform under the eave of the garden shed roof.
We enjoy having Phoebes around the house even if they are a little dirty. We have two or three nests this year. They mow with me in the lower pastures and around the pond and are great fun to watch as they chase bugs.
Earlier in the afternoon two fledgling Bluebirds rested on the deck railing. We are expecting to see some little wrens before too long from the nest under the eave of the screened in porch.

Neat. We’ve been enjoying the birds as well. I’ve started a blog post about our resident cardinal pair that insist on bashing into our windows. Got a few nice pics through the window.
Lots of frogs, too.
