A Pileated Woodpecker
April 28, 2012 § 2 Comments
Last week I noticed that a Pileated Woodpecker was coming to our feeder for the suet. When I walked over the window he would quickly fly away. A few days later I noticed him again but this time he had gotten used to the human looking at him through the window, allowing me to take several photographs of him.
When I was growing up, we thought that Pileateds were uncommon, perhaps rare. It may have just been our particular location. Nowadays, we see or at least hear them nearly everyday. Beautiful birds…

I was going to try to leave you a comment when I was in Shanghai – just to demonstrate the international reach of the QW. But they had your site blocked. Must be all those subversive woodpecker photos. (Actually, I could not get at any WordPress or Blogger sites). DPG
Welcome back to the land of the free press. It has always struck me that free blog hosting like WordPress and Blogger gives anyone with Internet access a platform to present/promote their ideas. For better or worse that’s very powerful and threatening to the powers that be in places like China.
