I commuted to the same job for almost 29 years. For the last 15 or so, I drove past this spot through one of the most beautiful valleys I know. In the summer of 2007 that came to an end; my job was a casualty of yet another Northeastern Ohio plant closing. As that phase of my life came to a close, I was thinking about work and life and lots of other things that are important to me. That set the stage for “The Quiet Way”.
My old Random House Dictionary, now held together with duct tape on the spine, defines quiet as “1. making no noise or disturbing sound. 2. free from disturbance or tumult.” and a little later, “6. gentle or mild.” The same dictionary defines way as “1. a method or means for attaining a goal 2. a path or course to a place.” A little further on one also finds, “6. characteristic or habitual manner,” “8. the mode of (sic) procedure that one chooses or wills”, and ”10. a person’s intended path or course through life”. All of those ideas combine at some level to define The Quiet Way. There is also an oblique and incidental reference to the 29 years that I was employed as a noise and vibration control engineer.
The Quiet Way is the quiet, reflective half of my personal blogosphere. My more analytical side expresses itself, albeit still quietly, at Murmurs from the Earth…Whispers from the Sky. In both I share some of the things around me that I have found interesting. I also post some black and white photographs at lightmonkey dreams. I hope you enjoy them…comments are welcomed.

Thank you for your kind wishes Barbara. The transition has been pretty good.
Part of the appeal of this valley was due to the time of day that I passed through it, especially during the spring and fall. The early morning light, often a little foggy, the light traffic…I noticed its beauty almost every morning. But there is something more to it that is very hard to describe or even photograph…it is just a wonderful place.
